The Foundation for American Innovation was founded in 2014 with a mission to help bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and DC, advancing a more perfect union between technology and the American republic.
To help advance this mission, FAI is seeking to hire a policy analyst focused on regulatory reform, permitting processes, and energy innovation policy, a project led by Director of Infrastructure Thomas Hochman. This hire will be responsible for producing original research and commentary and other work supporting the FAI team. This is a hybrid full-time position located in Washington, DC. Responsibilities
- Produce original research papers, op-eds, and other content that address regulatory barriers to innovation, permitting reform, and energy solutions
- Support research initiatives in our regulatory and infrastructure projects, including conducting research, collating statistics, performing basic data analysis, fact-checking, supporting microsite development, and other work as directed
- Support programming for FAI fellowships and events, including curating expert speakers and preparing principals for speaking engagements
- Occasional (<10%) travel for FAI events or key meetings
Qualifications
- Enthusiastic support for FAI's mission and worldview, including streamlined regulatory frameworks and innovation-friendly policy reforms
- Entrepreneurial and able to thrive in a horizontally organized work environment
- Highly refined writing and communication skills
- Familiarity with academic/think tank research best practices and style. An ideal candidate has a history of sole-author publications in policy journals and media outlets
- Extreme attention to detail. Enjoys working in the weeds
- Subject matter familiarity with one or more areas of regulatory policy, including environmental review processes, permitting frameworks, and energy markets. Relevant policy areas for this role may include: NEPA reform, energy infrastructure permitting, nuclear licensing, environmental regulation, administrative law, regulatory streamlining, cost-benefit analysis
- Bonus but not required: college degree in economics, public policy, law, or politics; law degree (JD or LLM); experience in energy/infrastructure development or regulatory compliance; 2-4 years of professional experience
