The Foundation for American Innovation (FAI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 with a mission to develop technology, talent, and ideas that support a better, freer, and more abundant future. Ours is a politics of builders, hackers, and founders working to advance a more perfect union between technology and the American republic.
To further this mission, FAI is seeking a Senior Fellow focused on technology competition and geopolitics, with an emphasis on the great power competition between the U.S. and China. Reporting to the Vice President for Policy, this person will conduct research and analysis at the intersection of technology and geopolitical issues, with a focus on strategic competition with China. Issues could include: global internet freedom, supply chain security and the U.S. tech industrial base, export controls and sanctions regimes, and combatting malign foreign influence. This full-time hybrid position is based in Washington, DC. (Exceptional candidates will be considered for a remote position.)
Responsibilities
- Produce original research papers, policy briefs, and commentary on U.S.-China technology competition and its implications for American innovation
- Support programming for events, including speaking on panels, teaching sessions, and curating expert speakers
- Build relationships with policymakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders in the technology and national security communities
- Periodic travel for FAI events and speaking engagements
Qualifications
- Enthusiastic support for FAI's mission and a keen interest in our community of builders, hackers, and policy experts
- Deep expertise in U.S.-China technology competition, including relevant laws, regulations, and policy frameworks
- Highly refined writing and communication skills with demonstrated publication history in policy journals and national media outlets
- Fluency with academic/think tank research best practices and style
- Extreme attention to detail
- Bonus but not required: prior experience working in the public sector (Capitol Hill, executive agencies, etc.) and/or in think tanks
- Bonus but not required: JD or graduate degree in relevant field
