The Foundation for American Innovation (FAI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 with a mission to develop technology, talent, and ideas that support a better, freer, and more abundant future. Ours is a politics of builders, hackers, and founders working to advance a more perfect union between technology and the American republic.

To further this mission, FAI is seeking a Fellow. Reporting to the Director of Technology Policy, this person will be responsible for producing original research and commentary, developing policy events and convenings, and supporting FAI’s tech policy team, with an emphasis on work around free expression, tech competition, and social media. This full-time hybrid position is based in Washington, DC. We seek an energetic, motivated, and detail-oriented individual to enhance our capabilities, execute key priorities, and grow quickly into a crucial resource for staff and scholars. The ideal candidate recently worked in a policy role in government and is looking to apply that experience at a think tank.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original, non-partisan research on competition policy in the tech sector as well as the efficacy of middleware and interoperable technology systems to inform governance and innovation in tech and democracy

  • Fluency with academic/think tank research best practices and style. The ideal candidate has past single-author publication history in policy journals and national media outlets
  • Extreme attention to detail. Enjoys working in the weeds.
  • Deep expertise in one or more areas of tech policy, including laws, regulations, and jurisprudence; can confidently say, "I'm an expert in X," and nitpick other people's work in that area. Relevant policy areas for this role may include: digital free expression, global and domestic internet regulation, content moderation, news/media, copyright, digital privacy, interoperability/decentralized web.
  • Bonus but not required: college degree in a related field (e.g., economics, politics, or STEM); law degree (JD or LLM); programming or data skills.

  • 401(k) match up to 6%
  • Generous annual performance bonus
